ASUU Gives a Week Ultimatum Until Strike begin: ASUU-YSU Threatens to go on Strike if all requirements are not met on or before 18th of January 2020.
The Congress of Academic Staff Union of Universities Yobe state University Branch ASUU-YSU met earlier on Tuesdays, 7th of January 2020 to deliberate on ligaring issues concerning the welfare of the association.
During the meeting which lasted for hours, three important matters were explicitly discussed. These included the Earned Academic allowances, Postgraduate studies Grant and salary shortfall areas as well as the implementation of the revised consolidated University Academic salary structure II (CONUASSII).
On the Earned Academic allowances, a total of Forty million, Sixty six thousand and sixty seven Naira, and Eighty five Kobo(#40,066,067.85) was claimed to have been made by the Branch since 18th December, 2019 as 2018/2019 excess workload, Teaching practice/Industrial Supervision/Field Trip as well as the Post-graduate Supervision allowances rights as enshrined In the article of ASUU-FGN 2009 Agreements
Also on the issue of the Post-graduate grants and arrears, a submission of two hundred and fifty four million, seven hundred and four thousand, five hundred and thirty nine naira(#254,704,539) was made by the ASUU-YSU branch since 7th March, 2019, as Postgraduate study grants and salary short falls areas as also contained in the Agreement between the association and the Federal government of Nigeria.
Besides, on the implementation of the new minimum wage salary structure in the state, ASUU-YSU requested for the implementation of the revised consolidated University Academic Salary structure II (CONUASS II) for it’s members as approved by the National salaries, Wages, Income and Commission on 14th November, 2019 and implemented in Federal Universities since February 2020.
Meanwhile, the Congress observed that despite several reminders to the University Management and the State government, none of the above listed request was attended to either but the University Management or the State government.
Therefore, the resolved to request the University Management and the State government to attend to these impending claims on or before 18th of January, 2021 to avoid impending local strike.
