School Reopening: ASUU asked FG to take the lead

While the ministry of education is making all efforts in school reopening, ASUU asked FG to take the lead. The academic staff union of universities has cautioned the Federal government about its move on school reopening.

Schools throughout the nation were down because of the emergence of the Corona virus Pandemic. This happened in the late March when the Federal government ordered the closure of all tertiary institutions and unity schools.

The national president of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi assures the public that reopening of schools only depends on the FG response. That the Federal government must make available all the resources as contained in the proposed conditions.

We should remember that the ministry of education has submitted the proposed conditions for school reopening. Government mus act on these before any school will open. The union (ASUU) cautions the Federal Government, states that FG must be ready to finance the whole process. The union’s National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi stated this on Monday while speaking in Ota, Ogun State with the News Agency of Nigeria.

School Reopening, ASUU, FG must take the lead as the pandemic is a health challenge and needs special attention . Ogunyemi also stated that the FG must be ready to provide the hand washing materials, nose mask, isolation centers, hands sanitizers and other listed materials.

The academic staff union of universities’ president stated that for school to reopen without the availability of all those those materials, it is a suicidal. He gave reasons that government schools do not have the enough financial capacity to cater for those conditions themselves.
